Upcycled Materials

This bag features a grey and pink hollow patterned outer. The straps have been reused from an old paper bag. I have also included a layer of calico interfacing to add durability and structural integrity to the bag.

Materials required:

T-shirts
Shoe box
Calico interfacing
Paper bag handles
Press fasteners
UHU adhesive
Scissors,
Thread,
Needles
Pins

Cut 6 rectangles from t-shirts or fabric, 4 outer and 2 lining. You also need to cut 2 pieces of interfacing from calico the same size as your other rectangles.

Pin the calico interfacing pieces to the wrong side of the bag outer pieces and sew.

Lay one side of outer on a surface, good side up and position one strap in a

Repeat this whole process on the other bag side.

Sandwich bag outer front and back together and pin, making sure seams are aligned. Straight stitch.

Rivet a corner of the bag bottom with a side of the bag using fasteners, then rivet the other side.

Sandwich lining good sides together and pin. Leave an opening at the bottom end of the lining to put the shoe box into your bag. Straight stitch.

Cut off one side of the shoe box and glue the box cover and box together. Draw straight lines on two sides of the box and fold along the lines.

Put the box into the bag and attach the wrong side of the bag to the outside of the box. Then sew the opening in the lining with a whip stitch.

Glue the lining wrong side to the inside of the shoe box.

An interesting reuse of an old t-shirt I like the pattern which can be changed depending on what t-shirt you choose to use.
