The Illume is a versatile light shade that can be used with various light fittings: Ceiling Light, Table Lamp or Floor Lamp. It is made up of approx 140 shot glasses all bonded together to create a stong yet visual appealing design

You Will Need: Hot Glue Gun, Minimum of 3 Hot Melt Glue Sticks, 150 Shot Glasses and an old lamp shade (25cm diameter).

Start off by getting 2 shot glasses and glue there contact points together. One spot at the bottom of the glass, then one small one at the top.

Get one more shot glass and glue there contact points, like step 1.

Repeat the previous step until you have 7 shot glasses glued together.

Now glue 2 more shot glasses where the red circles are (see diagram), followed by gluing 4 more shot glasses where the green circles are (see diagram).

Continue the previous steps, and it should start to look like this. Carry on going up with this process, and it should begin to naturally curve.

Continue the previous steps. You will nearly have a full circle. At this point you will need to carefully lay it flat on the table. If there are any loose shot glasses, just touch up with a spot of glue.

Fill the gap with the shot glasses, using the method in step 5. You now have the foundations of the light shade.

Now fill in the gaps on the top row like shown in the diagram. Continue till you have finished 1 row, and then do another 2 rows.

In order to get the bulbs frame, cut your old lamp shade like so (see diagram), then remove excess fabric so you’re just left with the metal frame.

Get the metal frame and place it as evenly as possible.

Glue the parts where the frame is in contact with the shot glasses. Test the sturdiness by lifting it up. If it feels weak, slue some more.

Continue adding more shot glasses in rows until you get to the point where you cant do another row, as you might have a few odd shot glasses spare.

You now have your finished product. You can attach it to any light fitting.

Good

I want to have it! But I liked the shape of melting plastic more. I wonder why didn't you use that? If you use use that with more developing,it would be much nicer!!

WOW!

The projection of light on the wall from this product is incredible. A really nice effort with the final finish and joining the glasses in particular.

I like the shape of the light, would prefer it if there was colour within it and if the shot glasses were collected from clubs and pubs this would mean it is truly reusing the materials.

impressive final outcome

Impressive final outcome, could possibly consider using a more stylish method of fixing the glasses together. A more suitable photo could also show the full merit of the final product better.

Great work

I think this light looks really great. I like how it is assembled and the interesting way they reflect the light.
