Velo is a unique table lamp reproduced from one single bike wheel.

The main structure is formed by closely interweaving bike spokes through their original holes in the wheel hub.

The high carbon content of most bike wheel parts make them virtually impossible to break down and recycle;
the Velo lamp is produced from these parts.

The variation in color, size and form of bicycle wheels, provides each Velo lamp with a unique aesthetic.

Source 1 x disused Bicycle Wheel and remove tyre if needed.
Remove the interior axel, turning the 2 axel, screw nuts in opposite directions, using 2 x Adjustable Spanners.

Remove exterior, rubber wheel lining completely, using a scalpel blade to reach under. Spoke fixings are now exposed.

Remove all spokes; unfasten all spoke fixings using a flathead screwdriver. Twist the spoke fixings, using Pliers first, if they are hard to unfasten. Remove spokes from hub shell by hand.

Secure hub shell (pictured black) into a Metal Lathe machine; the unthreaded end of the hub shell should be exposed. Set the internal cutting diameter to 26mm.

Set the depth, at which the lathe will cut, to 15mm. Make sure cutting blade is sufficiently sharp before drilling. Slowly drill into hub shell.

Remove all dirt and oil from spokes and hub shell using a damp cloth/ baby wipes; leave to dry, then clear rust (if any) off using fine wire wool. Mark all spokes 60mm from threaded end.

Using round-nosed Pliers and a steel rule, gently bend ¼ of all the total number of spokes at the 6cm mark. The smaller part of the spoke should be bent up wards to 35 degrees and hold.

Insert straight spokes into alternate holes in the hub shell. The unthreaded end will be pushed through first, diagonally, from the bottom set of holes, up through the top set of holes.

Screw-on all spoke fixings onto spokes, until threaded end is covered. Apply a small amount of EcoGlue into the gaps between the holes and spokes.
(3hrs Adhesive Drying Time)

Cut the 2 metre textile lighting cord into 2 x 1 metre lengths; connect cords to light switch and mains plug. Feed the unconnected end through the hollow hub shell.

Connect the SES light bulb holder to the lighting cord. Using a metal adhesive, join the bottom half of the holder to the hollow, interior hub shell (3hrs adhesive drying time).
Screw in light bulb!

Velo lamp would be ideally placed on your desk, bedside table or on any open, flat surface in your home.

Clean with soft, damp cloth.

I like this idea I think it's very original. I like that you can't tell what it's made from until someone tells you and then you can see the different parts that it's made from. However I do think it would look more 'homely' with some sort of shade or a smoother shaped section around the bulb.

I think this looks really unique, and you have really thought about the way the spokes interlink. Agree that it could use a shade.

Original!

Would not know that's made from a bike from first sight!
I like the way its simple yet functional.
The bulb you choose also fit in the style of the lighting.

Great lamp

I like the way that this product uses only one wheel per light. I think that it is missing a shade which would just finish off this design.

Really good

This was a really good concept and looks really industiral
The idea of using a bike wheel to make a lamp is really innovative.
Perhaps it could come with a lamp shade or something as optional?
Other than that it is a very good product and the ready made price is very reasonable and you could probably get more than £86.
