Ever kept a bottle of wine, Champagne or spirit from a special occasion but don't want to stick a candle in the top and make your home look like an Italian restaurant?

End to End is bookend made from recycled bottles. It shows users that packaging might not always be at the end of its usable life when they think it is. It also acts as a subtle reminder for the user to recycle at home.

Ever kept a bottle of wine, Champagne or spirit from a special occasion but don

Mark and score the bottle before cutting vertically in half using a hacksaw, or alternatively, I suggest taking it
to your local tile depot or glass cutters where they will be able to do it for a small fee.

Sand the edges of the glass. Use a big disk sander like this one or just normal sand paper works fine, this both ensures the safety of your hands and your books.

Make the mould however big or small you like. Bear in mind that some bigger bottles will require
a larger weight i.e. Champaign bottles. MDF and screws will do the job.

Varnish the mould and add releasing agent. The cut bottle edge should sit flush against the side of the mould. Pour concrete in the mould ensuring no air gaps are left.

Brush a thin PVA wash over the concrete block before adding a layer of varnish. This seals the mould making sure dust and other residue does not make its way on to your bookshelf.

Rub a thin layer of Vaseline over varnished mould (this acts like a releasing agent).Using a resin catalyst mix fill the mould whilst placing broken glass to the mould.

To stop the book ends from sliding glue a felt base to the bottom. Sit the moulds onto glued felt sheet before cutting out. This ensures that the whole base is covered.

Mix and match your personalised bookends as you please.

Interesting

This item is an interesting idea for using those old bottles that you keep, I like the idea of what looks like silicone as a base material then the concrete, but they both look like strong ideas.

Really innovative

This idea was really good, i like the idea of making a use for a treasured bottle and the parts the bottles are set into is really aesthetic. Maybe the inside could be sand blasted?
Its overall a really good idea and only needs a small amount of refinement. You could get a lot of money from this if you made it ready made.
